Envision Eyecare: Making My Career Vision Come True!

I’ve always wanted to live in the mountains of North Carolina. I became obsessed with the town of Banner Elk years ago when I visited the area to go skiing. It was a small town with lots of art and recreation. Being a lover of the outdoors and an artist, I knew that if I ever moved to North Carolina, Banner Elk was where I wanted to be. Although Banner Elk was a great little town, when I started my job hunting it did not seem to provide the amount of career opportunity that I found in its distant, neighboring town: Asheville.

When I started considering the town of Asheville as a place of new residence, it seemed just like Banner Elk; only bigger. Asheville was known for its amazing outdoor recreation opportunities. The mountains were tall with crisp views of the horizon that seemed to go on for miles. The food was raved about as being some of the best on the east coast. The art and culture that the town possessed was creatively abundant, and the overall quality of life was like nothing I had ever seen. Asheville blew Banner Elk out of the water and I knew it was where I wanted to be.

When my boyfriend and I came to the decision that upon his discharge from the Marine Corps we would move to Asheville, I knew that I needed to have a job in place to make the transition as easy as possible on us. I had been hunting for positions in my hometown in Virginia, but nothing was meeting the needs that I wanted fulfilled in a career. I knew that I needed a change in pace, and a position that would motivate me to be the best that I could be.

I had worked with children for as long as I can remember. Whether it was babysitting, volunteering at children’s festivals, helping out at church nurseries, teaching, or nannying; children were the name of my game. Although I loved working with children, I knew that one day I would want my own, and If I ever wanted to have the energy for my own children, I needed a complete career change. I wanted something different. I wanted a career that I could feel useful in. I wanted a job where I felt I was truly helping people in a realm where I could see what I am capable of learning as well.

I found an ad to work in the optical for a locally owned practice in downtown Asheville and wasn’t sure at first if this was really the job for me, but thought I would apply anyway. I wanted to move to Asheville. I knew it was a town I would enjoy living in, and this seemed like a good job opportunity that I needed to look into.

After doing some research about the practice and the team, I quickly realized that if hired, I would be working with a team of professionals that were experts in this field. These individuals were educated, talented, skilled, and organized. They had a mission to provide the finest quality in eye health care to their patients, and truly believed in providing superior service and leading edge products to their clients to ensure they were doing everything they could to keep their patients healthy.

After having a successful interview and after talking with Dr. Golson on many occasions; I knew Envision Eyecare was going to be the perfect place for me to expand my horizons, step into a new field, and begin to master a career that I quickly became engrossed in. I had finally found a job where I could be serious and career driven and also be myself; a bubbly, fun, and outgoing individual who enjoys working with people.

The optician position is one that I am more than excited to have landed and I cannot wait to be fully trained in order to be able to help this amazing team provide for our equally amazing patients. The dedication that the Envision Eyecare team has to learning as much as possible in order to go above and beyond their credential is breathtaking. I have never seen a medical office treat patients the way that this practice does. When you enter the building you are treated like a guest in a home and your spirits are automatically lifted. The kindness and understanding that each team member displays is phenomenal and their passion to be the best they can be at their craft is inspiring.

If you would have told me eight years ago that I would be working in a medical field, I would have told you, “you’re nuts,” but after working with Dr. Golson and his team, I can safely say, there is no other career field I would rather be in, and Envison Eyecare has definitely fulfilled my career vision. I could not be more proud to be a part of this team and I look forward to years of success in this practice. It’s safe to say, EYE love my job!
